FEBRUARY 2012 Bar Examination Test Sites

In accordance with Board Rule 6000.5, each applicant admitted to the examination shall be assigned to a test center in one of the four judicial departments located in the State. Test center assignments will depend on the sites available for a given administration of the examination. Generally, applicants will be assigned to a test center in the department in which they reside (at the time the application is completed); out-of-state residents will be given the opportunity to choose from locations with available seats, but most will likely be assigned to sit for the exam in the Capital Region or Western New York. Applicants will be required to confirm their seat location in an email that will be sent a few weeks after the application period ends.

The email will list the assigned location, based on the residence address given at the time of application, if you are a resident in the First, Second, Third and Fourth Department. If you do not reside in New York State, the location will be listed as “unassigned”

ALL candidates will be given the opportunity to choose a location based on sites with available seats. Only locations with available seats will appear in your email. You may either confirm the location listed or choose from one of the other the locations listed in your email with seats available. If your location is listed as “unassigned”, you must choose from one of the available locations. Generally, “unassigned” candidates will have the opportunity to choose from Albany or Buffalo. If there are any available seats in New York City at the time of the email, that location will also be listed in the email. The number of seats available in New York City for candidates who do not live in New York State will be very limited and will be available on a “first-come, first-serve” basis. Once a location is full, you will be required to take the examination at one of the locations with available seats. There will NOT be a waiting list for any location. You must choose your location based on the locations with available seats at the time of the email.
